Savings- A Family Safety Net (2000)

Aziz Bano lives in village Dhani Bux Panhwar with her six children. Her husband died four years ago in 1997. In January 1998 she started saving with Safwco by selling milk and cotton picking earnings. Her elder son Niaz Hussain 12, completed his primary education in the village and wanted to continue his study in a city school, as there was no middle or higher school in the village. Niaz Hussain requested his grand father to support his study but he could not pay for his education. When Niaz insisted on the higher study, Aziz Bano had no option but to check her passbook. There was an amount of Rs. 2,400 in her account. She thanked God for giving her opportunity to send her son to the city school. She withdrew Rs. 600 from her savings for the admission of Niaz Hussain in class six and for purchasing his textbooks. Now Niaz Hussain is very active student of sixth class in Government High School Shahdadpur.

After returning from School he sells toffees and sweets to bear his expenses and earn pocket money. Niaz Hussain has also started his personal saving, as his mother and teachers have advised him the value of savings.
