Human and Institutional Development (Case Study - Bashir)

Increasing Food Security

Bashir Ahmed Dahri, a resident of village Karamullah Dahri owns 10 acres of agricultural land. He used to practice' traditional cropping methods in preparati°l! of land, irrigation and application of fertilizers and pesticides. He attended Safwco's training' workshop on pre-sowing knowledge. He changed the cropping methods by new one he learnt in the workshop. As a result, he increased the wheat production by five maunds per acre. Previously he was getting 15 maunds per acre but now he is harvesting 20 maunds per acre. This has increased his interest in' farming. He hopes that in the next season he would further increase the wheat production through better practices. Safwco's NRM sector is reaching hundreds of such farmers for increasing crop production, so that they can improve their income and, conserve their land and water resources. In the wake of the current situation of water shortage, NRM has increased its efforts to help farmers get maximum production from the available water and inputs.
