Annual Activity Report DMER-SAFWCO
During a period of one year from January 2007 to December 2007 all the activities were putted into practice by DMER Sector with financial assistance of Oxfam GB and CRS (Catholic Relief Services) most of the activities were based on disaster risk reduction.

CRS Relief Project

The project entitled “Sindh Flood Relief Project 2007”.The project area comprises of 148 villages of Union Council Kharo Chhan and Keti Bandar; total house holds were 2000 while the numbers of direct beneficiaries was 2000 families. 4,440 families receive hygiene promotion in 148 villages. The total cost spent on this project was 7182800/=

Oxfam GB OIC

Received Stock form Oxfam GB and disposed in warehouses for emergency response in month of July 2007.This activity belongs to PKNA 36 (Humanitarian) project.

Oxfam GB Humanitarian

Workshop was organized in Taluka Khipro district Sangher on 28th November 2007 in order to impart the community for preparing themselves for utilizing available resources with in their area in critical times of emergencies for those who are living in disaster prone areas.

Workshop was organized in district Mirpurkhas on 1st February 2008 in order to impart the community for preparing themselves for utilizing available resources with in their area in critical times of emergencies for those who are living in disaster prone areas. The program was chaired by Mr. Faheem Ahmed Altafi MPA Sindh, other district government officials were also invited, Total numbers of participants from different villages of district Mirpurkhas were about 190.

Oxfam GB OIC (Gift unwrapped)

Workshop was organized on 10th October 2007, with having theme of World Disaster Day. In order to mainstream disaster risk reduction and integrate it in all government departments and to gear up social pressure on district governments, Safwco with the support of Oxfam GB organized a mobilization seminar at Indus Hotel Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. 200 participants attended the workshop the workshop ceremony was chaired by Madam Nuzhat Pathan Adviser to Chief Minister and member of Provincial Disaster Management Authority. District govt: officials like EDOs DCO,DDOs, Mr.Suleman G Abro CEO SAFWCO, Dr.Buxal khan Lashari Member BoD SAFWCO and other Social activists were also invited in the event.

Organized training on “Search & Rescue in emergencies & CBDM training” at HID center Hyderabad for community and partner organizations under the component of OIC project. Mr. Shalim Kamran Dost was Resource person. This was three days Training started on 28th November 2007 ended at 30th November 2007 the number of Participants 28 were participated in this Training.

A one day advocacy work shop entitled “The Effective Role of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA)” was organized by SAFWCO on 27th November 2007 with the support of Oxfam GB at Bilawal Garden Shahadadpur District Sangher. A number of 565 participants including men and women from District Sangher, Matiari and Hyderabad participated actively; these include Media personals, Members of local Social Developing organizations, government official and working in private organizations.

Organized Advocacy workshop in Thano Bola Khan District Dadu on 10th December 2007.event entitled “Effective Role of District Disaster Management authority” theme of this event was on “climate change”, this activity is related to sustainable livelihood a part of Oxfam GB’s OIC project.this event was chaired by Mr. Ahmed Bux Narejo DCO Jamshoro The Honorary Guests were Malik Qamar-uddin Taluka Nazim Thano Bola Khan and Mr. Pir Bux Khaskeli (Renowned Parliamentarian) other guests Mr. Suleman G Abro CEO SAFWCO, Mr. Niaz Husain Sial and district officials DOs VOs MOs and social activists were also invited in the ceremony.565 participants were actively attended the workshop.

Organized advocacy workshop in Taluka Kharo Chhan Distirct Thatta on 18th December 2007. This event was comprised on 195 participants including district officials, social activists and community people. Mr. Saleh Mohammad Lashari (Nazim Union Council Ghahro) was presiding person the event’s entitle “Effective Role of District Disaster Management Authority”.

Organized Advocacy workshop in District Hyderabad on 23rd January 2008. event entitled as “Effective Role of District Disaster Management authority” theme of this event was on “climate change”, this activity is related to sustainable livelihood a part of Oxfam GB’s OIC project. This event was chaired by Mr. Zafar Rajput Zila Naib Nazim Hyderabad, other guests Mr. Suleman G Abro CEO SAFWCO, Mr. Niaz Husain Sial and district officials and social activists were also invited in the ceremony. 200 participants were actively attended the workshop.

District profiles document is under process, in this document all the relevant data which will help in the times of emergency is putting together into a document.

Preparing cumulative report on all activities has been done in DMER sector from day first to up today.

Documentary of all the workshops had been done is in last couple of months is in process.
