Rajab A Memon
 
Dr. Memon is a recipient of professional distinction award of IZAZ-I-FAZEELAT from the President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, for excellence in higher education, vocational training and research in social sciences. Dr. Memon received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Economics, and the LL.B. degree, from the University of Sindh with honors. He graduated with Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Extension Education in 1983, from Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, U.S.A. His program of studies included courses in agricultural economics, rural sociology, adult and extension education, continuing and lifelong education, agricultural communication and technology transfer, land economics, advanced statistics and research methodology. He received post-doctoral training, in the management of vocational education programs at the Centre for International Education in Agriculture, Berne, Switzerland. Professor Memon conducted post-doctoral studies on Participatory Research and Extension Programs for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, under the 1996 Senior Fulbright Research Program at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, U.S.A.

He possesses diverse experience of more than 40 years in higher agricultural education, research and extension, vocational and career training, distance, continuing and lifelong education, and management of development projects and programs. He served as an elected member of the Syndicate of Sindh University, Jamshoro (1976-77); and SAU Tando Jam (1978-79; 2001-04). As Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Social Sciences for three consecutive terms during 1987-95, Professor Memon was successful in developing and managing a modern academic, research, consulting, outreach and training infrastructure including the Computer and Applied Statistics Center, Economic Data Analysis Laboratory, Instructional Media Resource Centre, English Language Development Centre, Farmers’ Advisory Services Cell, Agricultural and Rural Development Research Centre, and a post graduate research library. Dr. Memon was instrumental in negotiating the Twinning Agreement of the SAU with University of Minnesota, under the World Bank - assisted Agricultural Research Project- II in 1994. He served as Vice-Chancellor for three years and as Chairman, Vice-Chancellor’s Committee of the public universities of Pakistan for one year. As Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam (1995-98), he pioneered off-campus B.Ed. and M.Ed. degree programs and innovative post-graduate degree courses in agricultural and social science disciplines, which brought an all-time high additional internal income of about Rs. 150 million in two fiscal years; and pulled the University out of its chronic budgetary deficits in 1998-99. Currently, Dr. Rajab Ali Memon is HEC Merit Professor in Social Sciences at the Center for Rural Development Communication, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

Professor Memon is an active development practitioner and communicator, researcher, trainer, and consultant in agricultural and natural resource economics, land tenure and agrarian reforms, agricultural support services, local government and rural development, community empowerment and poverty alleviation, socio-economic and environmental impact assessment, stakeholder analysis and public consultation, rural leadership and people management, social and institutional development, training and capacity building and monitoring and evaluation. He has provided consulting input for several agency funded national and provincial development programs and projects. Dr. Rajab A. Memon has provided doctoral research guidance in Pakistan and abroad. He is an accomplished writer and editor of agricultural and social science print messages. He is a member and office-bearer of various prestigious professional organizations, including the PSDE (PIDE), Islamabad; the Asia Pacific Association of Educators in Agriculture and Environment, Los Banos, Philippines; Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture; and the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education, U.S.A.
