Bakhshal Lashari
 
Dr Lashari has more than 25 years experience as a professional engineer in the field of irrigation and drainage including research, teaching and supervising research projects to the graduate engineers in the field of irrigation, drainage, water supply and sanitation, construction of small houses, roads, water tanks, reservoirs and water supply tanks. Moreover, remodeling of canal system, Sediment Transport, Water resource Management, water balance using computer model, Evaluating performance of irrigation system, designing the river training structure to control the flood damages, investigating flood damages due to non-functioning of drainage facilities, design and installation verification of high efficiency irrigation system, surface and groundwater management , water logging and salinity management and community based disaster management and preparedness which includes drought and flood.

Dr. Lashari’s professional career has focused on promoting economic welfare through sustainable development and management of water resources for agriculture. It has included teaching and research, policy planning, system design and management, training and institutional capacity building.

At Mehran University, in addition to teaching and research, Dr. Lashari has extensive work experience as consultant with international and national agencies on water resources and drainage projects in Pakistan. He led a comprehensive action research effort on water management and institutional reforms in Pakistan (1995-2003). He conducted major field studies on data collection, analysis of data, report writing, designing; rehabilitation and construction of small irrigation structures; monitoring and evaluating, operation and maintenance of tubewells, canals, distributaries, watercourses, drainage facilities (surface drains, sub surface drains); developing strategies for the small investment to repair and construct small irrigation structures on share-basis. Assessing groundwater recharge and extraction, evaluating effect of groundwater use on soil salinization, impact of groundwater on rural economy, depletion of groundwater and deterioration of groundwater were also part of the research studies.

Dr. Lashari has excellent experience working with agency staff such as Irrigation Department, Agriculture department, WAPDA, farmer communities, rural village organizations on irrigated agriculture and drainage, training to the farmers and communities on water related facilities. He has trained huge number of technical staff and farmer community. Recently, he has been awarded senior Fulbright scholarship and has completed post doc from CSU, USA (2004-5).

Dr Lashari has more than 70 research papers and reports published in refereed journals, international/national conferences

Dr Lashari has visited many countries like USA, UK, France, Germany, Poland, India, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Bahrain, and Checosalvakia.

He has done Post Doctorate from Colorado State University Fort Collins , USA in Integrated water resources management and drought mitigation and preparedness (2005), Ph.D: Agriculture University, Cracow, Poland in Sediment Transport and M.E: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan in Water Resources Engineering
