Asghar Memon
Mr. Asghar Memon, by qualification is an Agriculture Engineer (B.E.) and has completed his double masters in Sociology (MA) and Finance (MBA). Mr. Memon has 12 years of vast experience in management, operations, poverty alleviation and research activities nationally and internationally. Mr. Memon started his career with an international organization “International Water Management Institute ‘IWMI’ having offices in twenty seven different countries and worked as Agricultural Engineer/Researcher. During this period five of his national reports were published by Pakistan National Program (PNP) and one international paper was also published in an international research journal. He has experience of budgeting, planning, proposal writing, human & institutional development, monitoring & evaluation, project management and report writing.

Presently Mr. Memon is associated with a multinational leasing company “ORIX Leasing Pakistan” (OLP); the largest leasing company in Pakistan as Manager, Micro Finance Division and supervising the operations of the Microfinance at Punjab and NWFP from Lahore. Besides being the supervisor of NGO linkages program he is also engaged by providing credit lines to NGO’s all over Pakistan both for Microcredit and Micro leasing.

Mr. Memon was associated with “Sindh Agriculture & Forestry Workers Coordinating Organization” (SAFWCO) as Program Manager, Economic Development Sector, at Hyderabad for five years from 2001-2005 and engaged for providing financial services to poor clients and to enhance the enterprise development activities of the operational area. He was actively involved in Project Designing, Implementing (Operations) and Management, Financial Management and Budgeting and Capacity Building of the staff and NGO’s.

Mr. Memon is also performing as technical advisor in “Sindh Microfinance Network” (SMN), Hyderabad from 2001. Besides being developing linkages among networks; he has acquired expertise for financial analyze, interpretation of data, report writing, business planning for MFI’s and providing technical assistance to NGO’s in Pakistan.

Mr. Memon did also enhance his skills as an expert of human resources. He possesses experience as planning, budgeting and conducting several training programs at national, provincial as well as local level. He is on the training panel list of Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN), Islamabad and Sindh Microfinance Network (SMN), Hyderabad. He has delivered number of trainings as a resource person from PMN, Islamabad at national level, Center of Excellence in Microfinance (CMF), Peshawar and from Sindh Microfinance Network (SMN), Hyderabad at provincial level and few of his training delivered are as follows:

1. Principles of Microfinance (SMN)
2. Loan Portfolio Management (PMN, SMN, SAFWCO, CMF, Caritas)
3. Delinquency Management & Setting Sustainable Interest Rate (PMN, SMN)
4. Essential Skills for Microfinance Field Operations (PMN, SMN, SAFWCO)
5. Market Research for MFI’s and Product Design (PMN, SMN, SAFWCO)
6. Microcredit and Accounting Operations (SRSP)


Mr. Memon has also performed a short term research study with Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad on policy level issues for the newly established local Governments in 2001.

Mr. Memon as a part of his learning, training and exposure has visited different countries. He was facilitated to attend a training program on “Capacity Building for Micro Finance Institutions (MFI”s) in Pakistan” a tailor made training specially designed for the trainers/resource persons of Pakistan at International Training Center of ILO, Turin, Italy in November 2002. Later on he went abroad again to attend world famous training program on Microfinance named “Boulder Microfinance Training Program” in August 2005 in Turin, Italy. He was ranked as number one for delivering the CGAP training in Pakistan on “Delinquency Management and Setting Sustainable Interest Rate (DQIR)” after having a ToT from Ms. Janis Sabita (Consultative Group to Assist Poor – CGAP, Washington Consultant).

As a part of professional growth Mr. Memon has visited Dhaka to have an exposure visit / study trip to different MFI’s like BRAC, GRAMEEN, BURO Tangail, UDDIPAN and others in August 2004. He also went to attend Regional Microcredit Summit Conference held in Dhaka in February 2004 and met international experts to share & gain experience.
